Dr Barbara Tomaras

“I love my work! Spending my days surrounded by beautiful animals and on top of that having the chance to help them and save their lives, is a dream come true!"

Barbara Tomaras was born and raised in Porto, Portugal. She Graduated from Oporto University – College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008.  Following her graduation, she spent 18 months doing externships in 6 different cities in Europe and the USA. During those 18 months Dr. Tomaras worked with many different species and areas of interest: to come to the conclusion that her path was to be an exotic animal veterinarian.

While doing a 3 month externship with Dr. Don Harris at Avian & Exotic Animal Medical Center, she decided that Miami was an amazing place to be an exotic animal vet and moved there to begin practicing. Since then and after getting her American Veterinary license, Dr. Tomaras has been working exclusively with exotic animals.

In 2014, Dr Tomaras opened Exoticare Veterinary Services – a house call veterinary practice.

Danilo Torres joined our team in June 2015, right after moving from New York. Although Danilo is a licensed Veterinarian in Europe we will be lucky to have him work as our technician while getting his license in the US!

Danilo completed his veterinary studies at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain and decided he wanted to work with exotics. There are few opportunities for veterinarians to learn about and work with exotics there, so after completing his studies in Spain Danilo decided to further his studies and completed an internship at the Center for Avian and Exotic Medicine on the Upper West Side in New York City, where he ended up working for 4 years.

In 2015 Danilo relocated to the Miami area in hopes of finding stronger opportunities to work with exotics.  He joined the team this year and is now assisting the practice in the care and education of animals.

Danilo will definitely be a great match for our practice since he loves working with exotic animals as much as Dr. Tomaras!

In the past Danilo has had a myriad of exotic animals.  Today at home he has three rescued axolotls and a beloved chihuahua, Doris.

Danilo is fluent both in English and Spanish (his first language) - perfect combination to work in Miami!

Welcome to the team Danilo!!
